In Memoriam: Janice Metzger, WPB Commissioner
posted on : Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010WPB Commissioner for SSA#33 , Janice Metzger passed away Monday February 22 at Rush Presbyterian Hospital. Jan had bravely battled lung cancer for two years and maintained a positive and determined attitude throughout her illness.
Despite her illness and on going treatments, Jan accomplished many impressive feats. In ten short months, she wrote and published a notable book entitled What Would Jane Say? City Building Women and a Tale of Two Chicagos (2009 Lake Claremont Press) that lauded the contributions made by Jane Addams and others to Chicago’s development and future. During her book tours, Jan not only provided invaluable insights into the dynamo that was Jane Addams, but also added a unique counterpoint to the Daniel Burnham 1909 Plan of Chicago centennial celebrations, which would have made Jane proud.
Jan was one of the first WPB Commissioners appointed by Mayor Richard Daley in 2006; serving as its first Chairperson and contributing her extensive knowledge of community planning and activism to the organization. Jan was a woman of unmatched integrity; Jan’s insistence on inclusion and transparency, has directly contributed to making WPB the dynamic organization it is to date.
Join us in keeping Jan and her family in your thoughts. For details regarding a memorial service (tentatively scheduled for March 6th, 2010) please contact the WPB office.

Description
Join Jonny Nobleza and Lindsey Britt in this special Valentines Day workshop in which the community will explore the basics of therapeutic flight and delve into the ancient tradition of Thai Massage. Students will learn basic principals of Thai Massage and will then practice giving and receiving a 45min sequence. Massage and meditation techniques will be employed to help the givers tune into giving unconditionally and receivers receiving fully. No partner necessary!

Description
This introduction to qigong workshop will be lead by Hanna and Joscelyn of the Qi-Revolution which will be coming to McCormick Place next month. They will be coming to Nature to discuss the basics of qigong and lead an introductory class. Similar to yoga, qigong is a Chinese practice combining movement and breathwork designed to circulate the energy/qi/prana in the body.
Free Event! We will be collecting donations for Amnesty International.
